This section is for those enlightened souls who realise that, although miniature wargames are fun and nice to look at, they are a poor substitute for the art of wargaming on maps!
Seriously though, many of us play boardgames. I've owned several hundred over the last 40 years or so, and still have a hard core of around 30 that I won't part with. Every know and again I find one of the ones I did part with listed up on eBay, and ofen succumb to temptation, so the numbers are rising again.
They are often referred to as the lazy man's wargames, as one doesn't have to prepare or paint figures and/or scenery. That's usually meant as a sneer, but it's actually a huge plus point for a lazy sod like me.
My own view, and it's one I know isn't shared by all, is that for operational level and above, boardgames simulate warfare far better than miniatures-based games can.
So this section is for those who want to discuss such games, tell people what they have and what turns them on about the various board wargames they own, and let others know what they are after or what they might like to trade or sell, etc. _________________ "Just because somebody's a member of an ethnic or religious minority, doesn't mean they're NOT a nasty, small-minded little jerk".

It's compulsory, I'm afraid. _________________ "Just because somebody's a member of an ethnic or religious minority, doesn't mean they're NOT a nasty, small-minded little jerk".

It's quite common to use the strategic level games to generate miniatures battles. In a club i used to belogn to, we used the orignal (and later the PC version) of Axis & Allies game to generate battles for Rapid Fire.
I've also seen Columbia Games titles Bobby Lee and Sam Grant used to generate boardgame battles using the excellent old Yaquinto Battles & Leaders game. _________________ "Just because somebody's a member of an ethnic or religious minority, doesn't mean they're NOT a nasty, small-minded little jerk".

I think it's good enough to generate battles. One doesn't want a detailed strategic game for that purpose.
As a stand-alone game, I'd rate it a tad too simplistic for serious play, but fine if one just wants a fun game. _________________ "Just because somebody's a member of an ethnic or religious minority, doesn't mean they're NOT a nasty, small-minded little jerk".

What's it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment we live?
What's it all about when you sort it out, Alfie?
Are we meant to take more than we give
Or are we meant to be kind?
And if only fools are kind, Alfie,
Then I guess it's wise to be cruel.
And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie,
What will you lend on an old golden rule?
As sure as I believe there's a heaven above, Alfie,
I know there's something much more,
Something even non-believers can believe in.
I believe in love, Alfie.
Without true love we just exist, Alfie.
Until you find the love you've missed you're nothing, Alfie.
When you walk let your heart lead the way
And you'll find love any day, Alfie, Alfie
would you tell me what's it all about?
what's it all about? Alfie, Alfie, Alfie.
What's it all about? Whats this all about?
what's it all about Alfie? tell me
what's it all about Alfie? what's it all about Alfie?
just tell me yeah. what's it all about?
what's it all about? |
