While I have played in a number of games I have never played a game of M &R on my own..so I took on the meanest mothers of them All Vandenburg -Brussia. My Kopf-Schlagers representing the army of the campaign, though I forgot a gun and this didled myself of 8 points so I had 175 points and a good General. The Phantom had a Great General and around 140 Pt so it goes..The fact that I had little or no experience commanding cavalry meant I wasn't as attuned to some of the tactical nuances and being a helpful person the Phantom Agent refrained from mentioning any of them to me..
The line up
It was a misty and foggy morning and the battle didn't start till the afternoon and ran 3 turns till night fall, doesnt seem much time to do a lot does it..well let me tell you ..
view from my right
from my left
Bad guys right..I had been outscouted because King Oskar of Vandeburg was psychic
so his six brigades of cavalry were in front of my six brigades..mine were much better when I got the hang of handling them and when bloody Kanuckia's command behaved like rational men rather than petulant and sometime sviolent uncontrollable schoolgirls
Bad Guys left and most of the centre, not too scary looking , not a lot of them..well let me tell you ...
The forces of Good's infantry and cavalry as the appeared to the unholy ones..
The K-S Cavalry move forward as the V-B cuirassiers come forward and their dragoon column says....NO..they actually did t get going till their cuirassiers were cactus and 6 Brigades were bearing down on them..
The K-S line involves itself in some kinking to try and outflank the V-Bs
More of the K-S horse and Dragoons..there had been some uncontrolled going forward by the dragoons , a bit of slitting up cuirassier bouncing back and then some ho hum standing around by the dragoons.
and still they don't look very numerous, or all that scary but they were coming across the field very very smartly
And THEN THEY WENT INTO LINE!!!!
oh [Brad Pitt]! all the units of the K-s army in this last shot bar one were destroyed within two turns
and meanwhile on my left the Cavalry wore down the V-B cuirassier who were proverbial [zig zag] on rocks as their dragoons still wouldn't move, mind you mine had gone uncontrollable and sat on their fat bums having a chat about "how these Prussians are really all that tough" for any number of turns!
Mean while the V-B seven Brigades were not so fast in line and my 12 brigades and 2 guns reckoned that if we held them log enough the Cavalry would do the job...and the dragoons of both sides sat around observing the cuirassiers of both side [] about a lot with each other ..
a moment from the Dragoons of Andrei von Kanuckia uncontrollable desire to whack cuirassiers..they did alright..wore them down sufficiently for the K-S cuirassier, in spite of my poor grasp of tactical sense , to do them in
And them those boof head clowns of my elite column decided that they would advance on the V-B line..... and make it that much easier fort the V-Bs to get close enough to shoot huge holes in them ...
and the dragoons fell back behind the cuirassiers patting each other on the back and ...
that big green patch is where the K-S Foot Guards brigade had been a moment before..
and then they were very close!!!
and Kanuckia's dragoons got it together to have a bash at the severely weakened cuirassier and..
meanwhile much of the K-S front line on the right was gone! and the V-Bs didn't seem all that non plussed
the horror
around 4 brigades gone!!!!
While the V-B 9SP grenadier Brigade found itself up against 8 K-S brigades and the surviving gun
at which point it ground down the senior unit of line in the army and was shot at from all sides..and it bore down on the hastily impressed into the line units..who flogged its few survivors..
and on the left the V-B cavalry was being quite systematically destroyed//
all gone
and one of my units destroyed a V-B brigade..yoo hoo
so well we both broke!!! I had destroyed two brigades of foot, out of seven and six brigades of cavalry out of six..I had lost 8 Brigades of foot and a gun unit.. what a game!!! _________________
